Protective Action of Sulfadimethoxine Against Acute Carbon Tetrachloride Posoning

Abstract
The protective action of the previous administration of sulfadimethoxine on the hepatotoxicity of subcutaneously administered carbon tetrachloride (CCI4) was experimently investigated. Fifty adult male rabbits weighing 1.8 to 2.2kg were used throughout the investigation and divided into three experimental groups. These groups of experimental design are
(1) single dose of CCI4, (2) previous multiple injection of sulfadimethoxine. Control blood sample were drawn from all rabbits and the results of each cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid and total lipid were devided into similar data. Blood sample was drawn from heart about 5mI.
1. Group I : The CC14 was given into subcutaneous tissue as a 305¢¥16 solution in olive oil of lml into twenty rabbits. Serum level of cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid, total lipid and lipoprotein were tested at the intervals of the 1st, 7th, 15th hour and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 12th day after single dose of CC14.
2. Group N : Multiple injection of sulfadimethoxine before CC14 intoxication were perfomed. lo0mg of sulfadimethoxine was given subcutaneously to each rabbits 6 hours prior to CC14 injection and 50mg at 4, 16, 38 and 62 hours after it. Lipids mentioned above were studied in such a way as the group 1.
3. Group- E : Only multiple sulfadimethoxine dose were administered as the group ff and lipid studies were as the group I .
The experimental results are as follows.
